OUR TEAM

A/E Business, Inc. was started with a group of 20 professionals that, as of December 2014, had grown to 39 full time employees. Experience and leadership in the business of architecture and engineering distinguishes A/E Business, Inc. from other business practice providers.

THE PROCESS

A/E Business, Inc. is a niche company that takes its relationships with clients very seriously.  During the cost-free discovery phase, AEB reviews the prospective client’s business practices and records and then offers suggestions for improving the client’s business processes. Once a partnership agreement has been signed, members of the AEB team are assigned on a full-time, a part-time, or on an as needed bases within the company, working both remotely and on-site.

Oliver G. Santos, President

Oliver had five years of banking and manufacturing experience before joining AC Martin Partners as a junior project accountant in 1980. By the time Oliver left AC Martin in 2006, he was the Chief Financial Officer in charge not only of the Accounting Department but of the Human Resources, IT and Administrative Services Departments as well. With over 26 years of experience in a right brain environment, tempered by several recessions in between, Oliver founded A/E Business, Inc. dedicated to serving only the business side of architectural and engineering practices. Working directly with the decision makers of client firms, Oliver provides top level business advice in helping them manage their practice. One of Oliver’s favorite quote is ‘’Architecture and Engineering are great professions. As a business however, they’re awful”. Oliver is confident A/E Business can help any architect or engineer turn their awful business into an awesome business. Oliver has a degree in Accounting from St. Louis University in Baguio, Philippines and a Masters of Business Administration from California Polytechnic University in Pomona, California. Oliver is a Certified Management Accountant and is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants.

Kerry Chan, Director of Human Resources

Kerry Chan has led the Human Resources Department with AEB since 2006. Her experience in HR varies across multiple areas but she has found the architectural/engineering industry the most rewarding. Among the diverse aspects of HR management, Kerry regularly ensures federal and state employment compliance, benefits administration, employee relations, staffing resources, employment visas, new hire orientations and exit interviews as well as policy and procedure conformity. As a graduate of California State University, Los Angeles, Kerry earned her B.A in Psychology and completed her credentials for Human Resource Management at California State University, Northridge.

Dave Bauer, Director of IT

Dave Bauer has been in the IT industry since 1999. He started off as a helpdesk technician at a software company and within a couple of years became one of the primary software developers. Dave is a creative and out-of-the-box thinker that understands both the end user needs and management’s needs. He designed a Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity system comprising of Netapp storage systems, VMWare and Citrix. Dave continually keeps abreast of the latest in technology and has subsequently upgraded systems to keep current with the technology and the business needs of the organization. He also understands how to manage IT costs in lean times and has helped companies survive the Great Recession by reducing costs while still improving IT systems. Dave’s background helps him understand user level issues, business management level issues, and financial issues. What Dave brings to the table is a keen business sense and creative IT solutions. Dave knows the technologies that are available, is well connected within the IT Industry and can think outside the box when it makes sense to do so. He can help a business improve its IT operations while lowering its IT costs at the same time. Dave also is respectful and caring about each customer’s service and support.

Tina Marquez, Controller

The Finance Department ensures that A/E Business and all its client companies are financially healthy and strong. Tina Marquez currently leads the Finance Department as the Controller. Tina is in charge of day-to-day accounting operations and all financial and regulatory reports as required by local management, federal and state authorities. Tina received a Bachelor's Degree from De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines. She has been in the practice of accounting since 1995 and had a very strong banking and public accounting experience before joining A/E Business. Tina started out as a project accountant for one of the residential architecture firm clients of A/E Business. As the company grew and added more clients, A/E Business needed an accountant who could handle both the corporate and project reporting requirements. Tina gladly took that challenge and continues to grow with the firm.

Izabela Dimitrova, Director of Administrative Services

Originally from a small town in Bulgaria, Izabela spent 3 years living in Johannesburg, South Africa before relocating to Los Angeles in 1999. Izabela studied nutrition and chemistry in Bulgaria and South Africa. She continued her studies in America and received a degree in alternative medicine. Izabela’s career in the administrative field started in 1999 when she joined Creative Kingdom and worked for the company for seven years as an Executive Assistant. When Izabela joined A/E Business, Inc. (“AEB”) in February of 2008, she was welcomed and made to feel as if this was truly a family. She was particularly impressed with the culture and the way AEB treated each employee as being part of the “A/E Business Family.” Izabela was promoted to Director of Administrative Services in January 2014. As a Director of Administrative Services, Izabela manages the Administrative Assistants and organizes company events, lunches and holiday décor. Izabela encourages the Administrative Assistants in each of the tasks assigned to them, but one of her priorities is to create the same atmosphere of the “A/E Business Family” that so welcomed her. She arranges meetings with her staff regularly for lunch or coffee and encourages them to share any positive or negative experiences so that she can help them in their day to day responsibilities. AEB provides quarterly lunches, “Tasty Tuesdays” for their employees, as well as games and out of office fun activities. Ultimately, her main goal is to provide the administrative duties in such a way that helps AEB’s clients grow their businesses and to become even more successful.

Kathy Patito, Director of Corporate Compliance

As a paralegal working in law firms for over 20 years, Kathy brings this experience to AEB. In 2006, Kathy came to work for AEB in a newly developed Contracts Administration position. A year later, the Contracts Administration was melded into the Corporate Compliance Department and became part of the “A/E Business Family”. As the Director in charge of Corporate Compliance, Kathy is able to offer more services to each company in regards to keeping licenses renewed, filing Statements of Information, fictitious business name statements, change of name forms, etc. At times, Kathy reviews specific parts of RFQ’s , she reviews contracts and prepares the contract for signing with appropriate signatures and checks to make certain that the insurance coverage requirements are available to each company. If it becomes necessary, Kathy will refer a matter to an outside attorney for review and/or handling. Kathy comes from the Midwest, always has a smile on her face, enjoys what she does and enjoys being a part of the “A/E Business Family”.
